An Oracle's Prediction says son will grow up to kill his father and marry his mother. So the king and queen give son to merchant to take him to a mountain range and tie him down

On the Outskirts of the city was a Sphinx that asked a riddle to Oedipus and if he got it correct (which nobody has done) he would be able to pass but the puishment for getting it wrong was to get eaten
Riddle: "What creature walks on four legs in the morning, two legs in the afternoon and three legs in the evening?"
Oedipus immediately guessed that the answer to the riddle was "man". He was able to continue passed the sphinx. Thebes was saved.
Oedipus was welcomed as their savior. Their recent king was killed so he was offered the throne and the widowed Queen Jacasta, as his bride. He took throne, married the Queen And had four kids with her: Two Boys, Polyneices and Eteocle; and two girls, Anitgone and Ismene.
A plague broke out killing crops, people and animals. Creon, brother of Queen Jocata was sent to the orcal and they said the problem was that the murderer of the past King Laios stood before them hiding anonymously and it wouldn't end till they were punished.
After questioning many people to find the murderer, Oedipus discovered that the man he killed on the road years before was none other than king Laios. He found out he fulfilled the prophecy - He Killed His Father and married his Mother.
When Oedipus and Jocasta discovered this horrible truth, she killed herself and he gouged out his eyes as punishment. Creon Took Over and kicked Oedipus out only accompanied by his daughter Antigone. He became a beggar until he reached a sanctuary of colonies where he died.
