  • Russia was a weak military power going into WWI. The Germans destroyed them, killing about 4 million Russian soldiers in the first year of the war.
  • Russian Civil War
  • Because of the small military power of the leader of Russia, Czar Nicholas was forced to give up his throne, giving power to the Duma.
  • Industrial & Agricultural Reforms
  • On October 25, 1917, Lenin, a Bolshevik leader, takes control of the government peacefully.
  • Stalin's Purges
  • The Bolshevik's form the Red Army and fight for Communism. The white army was their opposition, fighting to restore the Monarchy and the Czar. A third party was the greens who wanted neither communism or a monarchy.
  • The civil war caused Lenin to create war communism. The government took control over private companies and farms.
  • Stalin rose through the ranks and eventually came to lead Russia. He had millions of people put into concentration camps.
