  • My dear, I don't think that I want to murder Duncan... What if I fail?!?
  • What kind of coward are you? I've gotten the guards asleep. All you have to do is kill the king! We won't fail as long as you don't hesitiate!
  • Act 2
  • I'm not sure... I haven't really thought about them at all!
  • I've been thinking hard about the witches. Could they be correct?
  • What's this bloody dagger floating before me? Could there really be such magic? No. This must be a hallucination brought on by the act I'm about to commit... Well, it's now or never... here I go.
  • Macbeth tells Lady Macbeth that he doesn't want to murder Duncan. She tells him that he's a coward if he doesn't, and that he'll lose her respect.
  • The deed is done... Duncan is dead and I'm filled with guilt!
  • Why'd you bring the dagger? I'll return it, and you wash your hands and go to sleep. Don't think about it.
  • Banquo and Macbeth discuss the witches. Macbeth lies and says that he hadn't thought about them at all. This creates a gap in their friendship.
  • Murder! The great Duncan has been murdered!
  • Macbeth has the hallucination about the bloody knife leading him to Duncan's room. He's about to commit the murder. Duncan's guard has fallen asleep from all the drinks he's had.
  • We need to get out of here.
  • Macbeth comes to Lady Macbeth with the daggers after the murder. She's enraged that he brought the daggers back. She tells him to go to sleep and not to think about what he's just done.
  • Macduff discovers Duncan dead in his bedroom. Macbeth feigns ignorance and acts as shocked as everybody else.
  • Malcolm and Donalbain fear for their lives, assuming that the killer will come after them next. Malcolm flees to England and Donalbain flees to Ireland.
  • True. Whoever killed our father will be after us next!
