Joe (son) wants to see after how many cars does John (dad) have to sell to beat John's competitor, Jim. They are both car salesman.
At the car dealership...
Yea, but since I don't like Jim. I'm going to see if you make more than him.
Like my new job, son?
Later that day at home...
Ok, so I know that my dad earns money in this equation: y=15x+200. Jim (rival) earns money in this equation: y==10x+300. How many cars does my dad have to sell to earn more than Jim?
Later that night...
I finally figured out a method to see if my dad earns more than Jim. I will substitute in numbers for x until my dad's equation is higher than Jim's equation.
