  • The internet is the physical global network and the World Wide Web is made up of billions of websites
  • What is a LAN? Computers that are in close proximity to one another can be joined together to form a network.
  • Who owns the LAN? Someone owns the LAN. They are responsible for the hardware, the cables and the network itself.
  • Where LANs would be used?Close proximity’ means on one site, for example, a home, an office, a school, a library etc..
  • What is a WAN? Two or more LANs in different locations can be connected together
  • How are WANs connected together? They can also be connected via fibre optic cables, satellites or microwave links.
  • It is made up of billions of small computer networks called a LAN
  • The first working prototype of the internet began in the 1960s with the making of ARPANET, or the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network. Funded by the U.S. Department of Defence, ARPANET used packet switching to allow multiple computers to communicate on a single network.
