  • The North made money from manufacturing and trading their products.
  • Immigrants of the North would have simple jobs like shipping products
  • Although it was illegal to own slaves in the North, the African Americans were discriminated greatly.
  • The south made money from their cash crops, the biggest being cotton.
  • The slave life was mostly on a plantation, picking cotton and harvesting other cash crops. They were punished often for various reasons, sometimes even none.
  • The free slaves in the south would still work, not as harshly, but were often kidnapped and brought back to slavery.
