In the beginning of chapter one there is a snake shown being eaten by a bird. Looking closer at the scene the snake is representing evil because at the end George kills Lennie. Therefore the snake being eaten is foreshadowing to the ending to the book.
Chapter 5 pg
Lennie walks into Crooks room without his permission and he gets very angry. He gets mad because he is black and normally white people are not allowed in a black persons room. But Lennie doesn't know this and goes in the room. This shows the time period of the book because it took place during segregation and it is shown through Crooks character.
Chapter 6 pg
In this chapter Lennie is in the barn after killing his dog. Then Curly´s wife comes in and starts to talk to him. Soon aftet that she told him to toutvh her hair and he does, but he pulls too hard and she starts to scream. Therefore Lennie tries to have her stop by grabbing her neck, but in doing so he broke it. He did this so no one could hear her and to have George not find out that he hurt her even though he said to stay away from her.
In the last chapter of the book Lennie is on the run from Curly because of the murder of his wife. But George gets to him first. He tells him to look at the river while he tells Lennie about there dream. When they are talking George takes out a gun and shoots Lennie. Therefore this proves the point in chapter one with the snake as Lennie being the snake because he killed many things during the book.
