Storyboard Text

  • A child is left alone in the house having to look after their younger sibling for the day
  • The child's younger sibling begins to start coughing an alarming amount and holds their throat gasping for air
  • First, quickly check in their mouth to see if the object/food is removable by hand easily and carefully take it out
  • If this does not work firmly hit them on the back between the shoulder blades 3-5 times
  • If this also does not work then try to do abdominal thrusts; stand or kneel behind the person and wrap your arms around their waist. Locate the navel with one or two fingers of one hand, make a fist with the other hand and place the thumb against the middle of the persons abdomen, just above the navel and well below the lower tip of the breast bone. Do this and pull in very hard to try and get the object out
  • Again, if this does not work and they are struggling a lot to breathe and/or has gone unconscious then immediately call the ambulance for professional help
