Before farming, people were nomads. They were always traveling to find food. This was a hard way to live due to the fact that they didn't know where their food was all of the time, or if they would find shelter.
People were able to do the jobs that they wanted to do instead of farming, due to the surplus of food.

People discovered that they could stay in one place to plant and harvest crops that they planted for food. This was a much better way to eat because you would know where your next meal came from.
Farming allowed people to stay in one place, and build strong and durable houses.

Trading played a really big part in Mesopotamians' lives because they didn't have access to wood, so they traded their plants and many other things in order to get resources, decorations, and more things that they didn't have.

Since people got so good at farming, that made a surplus of food. So, some people were able to do other jobs that would help the community, like fishing or being a potter or a fishermen instead of farming.
Since people needed a place to farm, they would create permanent homes next to rivers, or next to fertile ground. That was to ensure that they would have good ground to grow their crops.
In all, farming has done a lot for the Mesopotamians. Such as allowing them to trade, or giving them new jobs after a surplus of food, and giving them a permanent shelter to live in!
