While all the guys are out in the town Lennie and Candy go to Crooks' place and talk about their future on the farm. Crooks doesn't believe them originally but after Candy and Lennie tell him more he decides he would like to join them.
Lennie accidentally kills the puppy and Curley's wife. He got scared when she started to scream so he tried to shush her. He knows he's in trouble.
George is forced to go kill Lennie because he doesn't want Curley to torture him. Lennie didn't mean to kill her and George knows that, but Curley wouldn't understand that Lennie had a disability. George wanted to make Lennie think of something beautiful before he died.
