Conflict: Darry vs. Ponyboy
Conflict: Johnny vs. Bob
Setting: The Church
Darry was a very harsh and overprotective brother. He affected Ponyboy when they fought and as Johnny describes, "Darry's hard and firm and rarely grins at all" Here is when Darry got mad at Ponyboy for coming home late one night. He lost his temper and hit Ponyboy in the face. This caused Ponyboy to run away with Johnny.
This is the part of the book where Johnny and Ponyboy ran to their lot. Ponyboy was being drowned in the fountain by a soc named Bob and Johnny stabbed Bob in the back. This caused Ponyboy and Johnny to have to run away so they weren't put in a prison.
The church was a big part of the book because it was where Johnny and Ponyboy went after they ran away and it gave them good shelter. It also influenced Ponyboy because it caught on fire, causing them to go in and help the kids, leading to Johnny dying. Johnn'y death was a big thing for Ponyboy because they became really close. "I killed him," he said slowly. "I killed that boy."
