Storyboard Text

  • I, William Thomas will start my new life here with my wife, Elizabeth.
  • In 1607, the colony of Jamestown was founded in Virginia. The colony was sponsored by a group of investors who wanted to profit from the venture. This was the first permanent English settlement in the new world.
  • As more and more settlements came, the country divided into 3 colonial regions. There were the New England colonies, Mid-Atlantic Colonies, and the Southern Colonies. Each colonial region had a different life experience due to climate, trade, and relationships with Natives.
  • My wife and I have decided to move to the Southern colonies for more agricultural oppurtunity.
  • I do not have the same religious beliefs as my grandparents, William Sr. and Elizabeth.
  • The Great Awakening happened during the 1700s, and was a religious revival. New ideas about religion surfaced that made people feel like they could have a personal relationship with God. Preachers went city to city spreading news about this new thinking.
  • The Trans-Atlantic trade was a 3 way trade system that included Europe, Africa, and the New World. Europe brought goods, weapons, and liquor to Africa for slaves that were brought to America. America exported sugar, rum, and tobacco. This trade system is responsible for the presence of Africans in the New World.
  • I am on my way to Europe to complete a trade of tobacco for weapons.
  • The American Revolutionary War lasted from 1775-1783 and it was between England and the 13 colonies. The war ended with the colonies declaring their independence as the United States of America.
  • I will fight to free my country from British rule!
  • My grandparents would have been proud of the changes made to this country.
  • The U.S Constitution was written in 1789 and is the supreme law of the land. It states the laws that citizens and states must abide to. It also has a Bill of Rights that lists the rights of the people. It outlines the frame of government.
