  • "Approach the chamber... ring the bell.
  • Macduff has discovered the king's dead body and is flabbergasted because of what he say. Macduff cannot name what he saw as murder. The theme is that of a mystery and confusion. You don't always know what is going on. "Tongue nor heart"
  • "What's the business, That such a hideous trumpet calls to parley. The sleepers of the house? Speak, speak!"
  • Macduff brings himself to say what happened to King Duncan, murder. The theme is confusion and an eerie feeling of who did it. People learn what happened to their king. "THe life o' th' building".
  • You are... the very source of it had stopped
  • Macduff is yelling for everyone to wake up because the king has been murdered. The theme is scattered and overwhelming. Even the worst of things can happen to good people. "As from your graves, rise up".
  • O, yet I do repent me of my fury, That I did kill them
  • Lady Macbeth is wondering why Macduff is running around waking people up. The theme is a constant emotion of the unknown. Lady Macbeth is too delicate to know what has happened. "Hideous trumpet".
  • Macbeth is telling the king's sons that their father has been killed, he is saying it poetically. He is trying to make their father's death seem graceful until Macduff tells them the truth. "The fountain of your blood".
  • Macbeth has announced that he has killed the guards and he did so because of his fury that was created by the king's murder
