Suddenly there was a rumble in the distance. Fraulein then whispered "We are to go to the meet the Fuhrer."
They hurried into the car. It had been over a year since Heidi had seen her father. The car drove through the village. It was the only time Heidi had seen it.
Heidi was taken to her father's bunker in Berlin along with Fraulein. Heidi felt like a prisoner. Food was tasteless and scarce, and it was bitterly cold.
Heidi falls asleep but when she awakes, Fraulein Gelber was gone. Heidi was almost certain that she had escaped. After a night on her own, a bomb goes off causing Heidi to run towards her screaming father. Duffi denied that he knew of Heidi's existance. He then tells his soldiers to take Heidi away. A soldier escorted Heidi, but later killed.
Heidi was surrounded by destruction, and was in danger. Heidi was nearly killed by an exploding tank, but is saved by the Schmidt family. They tell her that they will look after Heidi. Heidi proceeds to tell them she has no parents, as she no longer sees Duffi as her father due to his rejection.
Heidi and the Schmidt family make it safely to Berlin. Frau Schmidt offers to pretend Heidi is her own daughter. Heidi then moves to Australia as a refugee. Heidi grows up and lives a successful life with a family of her own. She disguised her identity till just before her death, as she reveals herself to her granddaughter.
