  • Japan Colonization / Imperialism
  • If we want to reach world domination, we must join the Axis Powers.
  • U.S. Oil / Steel Embargo on Japan
  • Cut our connections with Japan with an embargo.  
  • Pearl Harbor, Hawaii & the Surprise Attack
  • The Japanese are attacking?!  What about the soldiers and the ships?!
  • Before the war, the Japanese Empire aspired to gain more power and land.  They joined along sides with Germany and Italy to try to achieve this goal.
  • The Japanese Point of View
  • Due to the Japanese's actions in the homeland, many ordinary descent were treated badly.
  • As a last resort, America decided to put a steel and oil embargo on Japan.  Needing the resources desperately, the Japanese left all signs of peace and planned to attack.
  • FDR "Date which will live in infamy"
  • "... a date which will live in infamy!"
  • December 7, 1941, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.  This port was filled with 7 U.S.S. ships and many inexperienced Navy fighters.
  • American Point of View
  • After the attack of Pearl Harbor, many people were influenced to go to war due to their loss.
  • The Japanese people that lived in the U.S. were discriminated against due to the attack of Pearl Harbor.  They were sent to camps because of the homeland's actions that they did not agree to support. 
  • President Franklin D. Roosevelt is well known today for making his famous speech about the attack of Pearl Harbor.  This speech signaled the start of the U.S. entering the war and fighting Japan.
  • The American people were left devastated by the surprise attack.  Many people died that day and they believed that it was time to go to war.
