  • "The big bronze globe careened down the hill toward the gym, picking up speed as it went." (8)
  • "My heartiest congratulations once again.  Your child is a credit to the Hardcastle Independent School District." (27)

  • "When was the last time anybody showed up late? " Sorry  I'm late." A tall sandy-haired boy apeared at the door." (34)
  • "Dr.Schultz. I swear he crossed the gym in three gigantic strides, shooting sparks from his eyes." (205)

  • Donavan Curtis, the main character, knocks over part of a statue and destroys his school's gym, in a freak accident. The superintendent of his school district rights down his name and accidentally mistakes it as part of the list of gifted students. Donavan then gets sent to a new school, for gifted.
  • Falling Action
  • " I scrubbed hard with the polishing cloth, and Madagascar got a little shinier. Maybe. It was so dark in the subbasment of the administration building that it was hard to tell Africa from South America." (206)
  • Donavan goes to his new school, called the Academy of Scholastic Distinction, where he meets his homeroom and joins the robotics team.
  • Resolution
  • ""Better than that, " Nussbaum promised. " You need a mental health day off from school.""(233)
  • While the robotics team is practicing for the robotics meet, superintendent Schulz checks out what they are doing, he finds Donavan and exposes him for his actions.
  • "Chloe was the first clue in the gravity of what was going on." (205)
  • "''Donavan Curtis- your parents are on their way.""(205)
  • ""Dr. Schultz-what a surprise,"" (205)
  • Donavan gets punished for his actions of destroying the statue, denting the gm floors, and breaking the doors.
  • The two Daniels approach Donavan, claiming he needs a "mental health day from school" which ends up being the robotics meet. 
  • "" What is it this time? Itching powder for the soap dispensers? Nerve gas for the cieling fans? Cynaide for the salsa?""(233)
