  • I would argue there is little consistency when conducting career interventions. We need a more comprehensive approach!
  • As educators, we need to collaboratively towards the goal of successful transitions for our students into adulthood. A well thought out transition plan includes functional academic skills and community experiences. We can provide that now!

  • The pedagogical model focuses on increasing self-determination skills, positive attitude, dependability, consistency, as well as functional academics. All of this is under the guiding normalization theory to teach students social, employment, and community survival skills for greater independence once they graduate. 
  • We should start preparing students sooner than later. We also need programs that better meet their needs and be sure that successful transitioning is a priority for all staff working with students with disabilities!
