Storyboard Text

  • You have not been assigned anything. You have been selected as the Receiver of Memories.
  • JONAS Receiver Of Memory Go to giver's house for training right after school. After training immediately go back home You are allowed to be rude. No matter what question you ask, the person has to answer you. Do not discuss training with anyone, including parents and elders You are prohibited from dream-telling. Unless you are badly injured, do not apply for any medications. You are not allowed to apply for release. You may lie.
  • Jonas is now the Receiver of memory. It is a very important job and he has to do everything the old receiver tells him.
  • Jonas does not have the same rules as everyone else in the community. His rules are much more important than the others in his communities rules.
  • Why are the community people not allowed to make decisions?
  • One difference is the furniture. The other two are the number of books and the size of the houses.
  • The giver gave Jonas the memory of snow and sledding. He also gave Jonas sunshine and sunburn. The giver gave Jonas an example of the physical pain he would experience.
  • The only way to keep people in a utopia in check, would be to keep them stupid.  If they know all the memories, the utopia would be chaos and no longer utopian.
  • Jonas believes he is seeing beyond. He is starting to see color, which is seeing beyond.
