Storyboard Text

  • "I came, know-nothing, Oedipus, I stopped the Sphinx" (24).
  • Oedipus solved the riddle of the Sphinx and saved the city of Thebes. Oedipus then became the new king of Thebes.
  • "You have no power or truth. You are blind, your ears and mind as well as eyes" (23).
  • Oedipus went to see Tiresias, the blind prophet, who told him that he was the one who killed King Laius. Oedipus refuses to believe him, and teases him about his blindness.
  • "Take my advice, I beg you-do not go on with it. It is good advice I am giving you- I am thinking of you" (61).
  • Oedipus talks to Jocasta, his wife and mother, about the prophecy. Afraid of the risk, Jocasta tells Oedipus to stop looking and that she is leaving him.
  • Oedipus learns that the prophecy actually was not true and was just a plan to break up him and Jocasta. He tries to win her back, but fails.
  • Once Oedipus knows he will never get Jocasta back, he gives up and stabs himself to death.
  • Feeling ashamed, Jocasta moves very far away from Thebes. However, she still feels guilty every day of her life and blames herself for the death of Oedipus.
