Storyboard Text

  • Today we will be discussing the Aboriginal culture in Australia, and especially Victoria. The indigenous culture is so important in Australia as it is a main part of our history, and how our country came to be.
  • KOORIE- the word Koorie means people in the Indigenous language. This word basically has the meaning of Indigenous people in Australia
  • Both the Boonwurrung and Woiwurrung tribes are pretty much the owners of the place that we now know as Melbourne. when the Europeans arrived, they forced the Aboriginals to leave the area, but technically they still founded it.
  • To gain understanding of Indigenous culture, in Victoria there is the Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre (which is located in the Melbourne Museum), where anybody can go to learn about the Australian history, relating to Aboriginals.
  • Charcoal lane is a restaurant in Fitzroy, that offers dishes with traditional Australian flavours and dishes. Some dishes that I would order are the antipasto plate, the lemon myrtle saganaki and the passionfruit tart.
  • NAIDOC week is a week in July where people in Australia celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements. Even Australians who are not directly Aboriginal can participate in activities to celebrate this amazing culture.
