I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them that hang! How may I live without my name?
The Theme in the Crucible is People would rather die with a good name than have their reputation be spoiled
“ABIGAIL, in a temper: My name is good in the village! I will not have it said my name is soiled! Goody Proctor is a gossiping liar!” (Act 1, p. 12) Abigail is worried about her name in the village being ruined by someones prosocution
"PROCTOR, with a cry of his whole soul: Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! Because I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them that hang! How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul; leave me my name!" (Proctor, Act 4, p. 133). John Proctor didn't want people to think bad of him and thought if there was anyway to go it be now in a good name.
There be no blush about my name.” (Abigail, Act 1 p. 11) Abigail dosen't want people to know about the affair between her and John Proctor.Or anything else about her name
A lot of big names like celebrities and politicians will do anything in there power to keep there reputation much like John proctor was willing to die for his reputation to remain where it was.
