Anna was born to an unmarried mother who was forbidden to bring the child into the house. She was then placed in a children's home but was moved into foster home after it become too expensive. At 6 months old, Anna was returned to her mother, but was confined to an attic by her grandfather with little care. She was found in 1938 at the age of 6. she was very frail, but over time she was able to walk, somewhat talk, and feed herself. However, at 10 years old, Anna died as a result of her earlier isolation.
Anna may have been able to survive longer if she had her mother, but because she was alone, Anna was not able to adapt to certain things after she was found. She was unable to express her emotions and showed no interest in socializing.
