Storyboard Description

This is my storyboard that quickly shows when and how I had my "Epiphany of Learning" in my TCH 219 course!

Storyboard Text

  • I was curious observing two different classes back-to-back was going to be like. The first class was titled "Reading Strategies" and the second "Freshmen Literature".
  • BLOOMINGTON HS
  • How different could they be?
  • 4th hour
  • 3rd hour
  • First, I met Mrs. Holaway, and she was very helpful in giving me background on the classrooms and what to expect. She told me that she is "a completely different teacher" to both classes, but I did not know what that meant quite yet
  • MRS. HOLOWAY'S READING STRATEGIES
  • 3rd hour
  • These students were the polar opposite of what I was used to. Their behavior was sporadic, mainly because their attention span was limited
  • It was a total differnece moving to the next class. They seemed willing to learn and excited. I had never been exposed to such different classroom enviornments until then!
  • I learned quite a bit from Mrs. H's different teaching strategies. For her 3rd hour she used classroom management tools and websites to trach behavior, which helped the students know when they were misbehaving. In her 4th hour she engaged more in open discussion and while using computers let them listen to music or browse the Web.
  • HOW TO TEACH TO DIVERSE CLASSROOMS
  • Being able to see the two completely different classes everyday lead me to an "Ah-Ha!" moment. This is what every Teaching textbook and course has talked about. Diversity, throughout classrooms as a whole. The "Reading" class was full of diverse readers, in the sense that they are all mainly struggling readers. So it hit me how important it was to teach each classroom different as a whole along with each student different. The Inceoption of teaching@
