Storyboard Text

  • Daddy, Is this the Underground Railroad that I heard about in class?
  • No, Princess. This is the train. The Underground Railroad happened a long time ago.
  • The Underground Railroad was an interconnected network of houses, churches, and other safe places used by runaway slaves to get to freedom.
  • How did the runaway slaves know which houses were safe and which weren't?
  • Well, a lot of the time they had guides called Conductors. Harriet Tubman was probably the most famous Conductor of all.
  • They called her Moses and she was never caught or lost a Passenger in all of her years helping runaway slaves to freedom.
  • Wow, that's amazing. I want to be like Harriet Tubman when I grow up.
  • Ha ha. She was an amazing woman and she never stopped helping people, even after slavery had ended.
