Hey I'm Toby. Today i wanted to tell you about how there are so many different ways that the rainforest is important to our world,.. Here's a few...
Many Indigenous people call the rainforest their home and depend on it for their shelter, food and sometimes even medicine. They are often moved away from their homes, and sometimes if they refuse to move on, their whole villages are destroyed or even killed.
Soil in the rainforests can be poor in nutrients and thats because the nutrients are mainly stored in the trees and plants not the soil. The roots of the trees keep the soil together and the branches and leaves protect the soil from the heavy rain. When the tree dies and falls over ,it decays and the nutrients go into the soil to protect it. If the trees are removed by logging, so are the nutrients.
The worlds rainforest's are home to over 30 million species of plants and animals. Its also believed that there are thousands more animal and plant species still to be discovered. The rely on the forests for shelter, protection and food. Without the forests, many of these species will die out.
Its also important to know that more than 25% of modern day medicine comes from our tropical forest plants. In real life though, we really only know how to use 1% of these plants and still have so much to learn. Can you imagine what things we can cure if we learn more about these plants and what they can do. If our forests are destroyed, we wont get the chance to see what they can do for us.
So as you can see, our rainforests are very important to our world for many different reasons and we all need to do our very best to look after it.
