  • The first Native Americans forced to walk to Oklahoma due to the Indian Removal Act were the choctaw in 1831. The last to move were the Cherooke, led by Winfeild Scott, in 1838 and costed $5 million for the Cherookes home and 4,000 died.
  • Andrew Jackson passed Indian Removal Act was passed in 1830 and also conviced some Cherooke leaders to sell their land, including Andrew Jackson, and promised them new land wich was later taken away.
  • John Ridge, a Cherooke leader that sighned the treaty, was assasinated by a surviving Cherooke of the Trails of Tears.
