Storyboard Text

  • Every June, Canadians celebrate National Indigenous History Month, which is an opportunity to honour the heritage, contributions and cultures of First Nation, Inuit and Métis communities across Canada. Canadians are also invited to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21st each year.
  • Now we can't be more proud to be Indigenous people. Throughout Canada's history, Indigenous peoples have helped shape this land into the country we know today.
  • Indigenous people's reputation has been betrayed ever since the Government of Canada agreed to having Residential Schools. One of the most devastating impacts of the residential school system was that it gave most students a poor education.
  • For many, that led to chronic unemployment or underemployment, poverty, poor housing, substance abuse, family violence, and ill health
