Storyboard Text

  • Step 1: Interphase
  • Mitosis
  • During interphase, the cell duplicates its DNA, grows to its mature size and prepares for division.
  • The nuclear membrane begins to break down and the centrioles begin to create spindle fibers during prophase
  • Step 2: Prophase
  • During metaphase, the chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell and one spindle fiber from each side of the cell attaches the the centromeres of  the chromosomes.
  • Step 3: Metaphase
  • Step 4: Anaphase
  • In anaphase, the chromosomes are split apart into chromatids by the spindle fibers. The spindle fibers than take one chromatid from each chromosome to either side of the cell.
  • Two nuclear membranes form around the groups of of chromosmomes in telophase. Also, the cell membrane begins to pinch closed.
  • Step 5: Telophase
  • Step 6: Cytokinesis
  • During cyominesis, the cell membrane pinches closed and forms two identical daughter cells.
