Storyboard Text

  • Reverend Parris
  • Abigail, I have fought here three long years to bend these stiff-necked people to me, and now, just now when some good respect is rising for me in the parish, you compromise my very character.
  • Abigail Williams
  • Let either of you breathe a word, or the edge of a word, about the other things, and I will come to you in the black of some terrible night and I will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you.
  • Thomas Putnam
  • That tract is in my bounds, it's in my bounds, Mr. Proctor!
  • Reverend Parris is a man who cares a lot about his good reputation as a minister and will do what he has to do to maintain it (like hiding things and lying). He's very selfish as well with accusing others in order to have a good name for himself. He was one of the accusers (often going against Proctor) and since he didn't have the best reputation in Salem and not many people liked him, he wasn't about to let this situation worsen his name.
  • Rebecca Nurse
  • Then let us go to God for the cause of it. There is prodigious danger in the seeking of loose spirits. I fear it, I fear it. Let us rather blame ourselves.
  • Abigail is a manipulative, lying, selfish, (but smart)young girl who does what she has to do in order for herself to remain in a safe situation. She has a poor reputation in Salem she claims because Elizabeth "blackens her name". She is initially one of the accused, but she gets herself out of it by lying and manipulating the court and ends up being an accuser,
  • John Proctor
  • How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul; leave me my name!
  • Thomas Putnam is one of the wealthy, important men of Salem. He is very greedy, selfish, and manipulative and accuses people of Salem of witchery so that he could take their land. He and his wife have had 7 of their children die and only have one daughter who is now sick, this lead to envy of Rebecca Nurse since she had 26 grandchildren. Putnam & Goody Putnam also accused her of using witchery to kill their children.
  • Elizabeth Proctor
  • Rebecca Nurse was a sweet, selfless, innocent old lady who was one of the individuals accused of witchcraft. She accepted everyone for their mistakes and thought positive in all situations. She was known throughout Salem of being the genuinely-kind old lady that she was... which was why people were shocked when she was accused.
  • Although John Proctor made mistakes, like adultery, he was a man of goodness and honesty and this was shown through his confession to the court about his affair despite the affect it had on his reputation. He was brought into court to defend his wife who was accused of witchcraft. He is known in Salem as a farmer and a good man (before his confession of lechery).
  • Elizabeth Proctor seems to be a very calm, passive woman... almost too calm. She also gives off a sort of petty attitude in her silence toward John after his affair. She is known thourhgout Salem as an honest woman of respectable nature. She was accused by Abigail since Abigail wants her dead so she can take her place and be with John.
  • I cannot think the Devil may own a woman's soul, Mr. Hale, when she keeps an upright way, as I have. I am a good woman, I know it; and if you believe I may do only good work in the world, and yet be secretly bound to Satan, then I must tell you, sir, I do not believe it
