  • My name is Thomas Hobbes and I wrote about politics and government, I tried to give a rational basis for absolute rule by kings. As an adult I traveled to many different parts of Europe.
  • My name is John Locke and my thinking about the government and people's rights had a major impact on the enlightenment. I favored constitutional monarchy. I denied divine right of kings to rule.
  • My name is Volitare, I became one of the most celebrated writers of the Enlightenmaent, I warred against what we saw as a superstition, error and oppresion.
  • My name is Madame Geoffrin, I was one of the most prominent sponsers of the salons. I also gave financial support to the Encyclopedists.
  • My name is Abigail Adams, I am married to John Adams (a leader of the American Revolution). I firmly supported the movement for independence, I spoke out for the right of education.
  • I am Mary Wollstonecraft, I believed that education was the key to gaining equality and freedom. I argued that women deserved the same opportunities and rights as men.
