  • Nationalism
  • This is our country!!!
  •  The Dutch East India company had challenged the Portuguese monopoly in East Asia, and after involving themselves in Indonesia politics, they were able to conquer Indonesia just like the British conquered India.
  • World War II
  • I'm taking Netherland's colonies
  • Even though the Dutch East India Company was able to improve Indonesia's weaponry and shipping techniques, the VOC still created plantations on Indonesian land and forced Indonesian citizens to work on the plantations for labour, and they were treated almost as slaves.
  • Independence
  • We must leave
  • During the 1920's to 1930's, the ideas of anti-colonialism and national consciousness among Indonesians began to rise, and even though many Indonesian leaders and influencers were arrested, Indonesia's road to independence was well underway.
  • This country belongs to us!
  • In the beginning of 1942, Japan had suddenly invaded the Dutch colonies, and even with their advanced force, they were still overrun and defeated by Japanese soldiers. This event saw the end of the Dutch rule over Indonesia. WWII was a tragic time for the Dutch because not only did they lose a vital colony, the country itself was conquered and taken by Germany.
  • No please stop
  • KILL THE DUTCH
  • I'll just take Netherland
  • After WWII was finally over and Imperial Japan had been defeated, the Dutch sought to regain control of Indonesia and become the mother country once again. However, after many losses from both Netherlands and Britain, they had both given up on colonizing Indonesia, and instead, let Indonesia become an independent country.
  • You couldn't even beat Indonesia
  • Time to leave
