Storyboard Text

  • Run on Line
  • What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.
  • I take thee at thy word. Call but love, and I'll be new baptized; Henceforth I never will be Romeo.
  • Metaphor
  • But soft! What light through yonder window breaks? It is the East, and Juliet is the sun!
  • Ay me!
  • Foreshadowing
  • What, art thou hurt?
  • I am hurt. A plague o' both your houses! I am sped. Is he gone and hath nothing?
  • Here Juliet tells Romeo a rose would smell exactly the same if called by another name. Juliet is trying to say that even if Romeo weren't a Montague and she, a Capulet her love for Romeo will never change.
  • Soliloquy
  • Give me my Romeo; and, when he shall die, Take him and cut him out in little stars, And he will make the face of heaven so fine That all the world will be in love with night And pay not worship to the garish sun.
  • Romeo compares Juliet to the sun.
  • Oxymoron
  • Sleep dwell upon thine eyes, peace in thy breast! Would I were sleep and peace, so sweet to rest! Hence will I to my ghostly father's cell, His help to grave and my dear hap to tell.
  • Mercutio curses both houses because he is hurt. In which the curse foreshadows the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet.
  • Dramatic Irony
  • Juliet is speaking of her love for Romeo and what she wants when Romeo dies.
  • Romeo and Juliet are saying their last goodbyes because Romeo has to part to Mantua before dawn.
  • Good night, good night! Parting is such sweet sorrow, That I shall say good night till it be morrow.
  • Romeo thinks that Juliet is dead but Friar Laurence and the audience know that Juliet is still alive she is just in a "death like" state.
  • Come, bitter conduct; come, unsavory guide! Thou desperate pilot, now at once run on The dashing rocks thy seasick weary bark! Here's to my love! O true apothecary! Thy drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die.
