  • The Black Death was an epidemic plague which had originated in Central Asia during the mid 1300's, and was carried by Oriental Rat Fleas which were living on Black Rats
  • The Black Rats usually would carry onto merchant ships, which crossed through the Mediterranean Sea, and through many parts of Europe
  • The dangerous rat fleas had then infected people in Europe, by biting the humans due to not having access to any food. The disease had rapidly spread, and once one had been infected, you had an 80% chance of dying. After 4 years of the plague, it had wiped out a 3rd of Europe's population at the time
  • People who were infected with the disease, needed help. Plague doctors were hired by villages to help people infected with the disease. The doctors wore beaked masks to protect themselves from the Black Death
  • The people who had died from the plague, had been buried in roots underground, because they were dead and still infected with the plague, and they made sure that no one came in contact with them so that no one could get infected by it
  • Many wealthy survivors of the black death had invested in many articulate activities, such as art and literature, and had built many buildings and churches. These modern changes and developments at the time had caused Medieval Europe adapt onto the Renaissance period
