Storyboard Text

  • Congratulations on getting picked to run for president.
  • The Democratic-Republican party picked William H. Crawford, a senator from Georgia, to run for president in 1824.
  • I am very thankful for the opportunity.
  • John Quincy Adams , Massachusetts
  • Crawford wasn't the only candidate for president, there were three others. They were favorite sons. A favorite son is a presidential candidate that has support from mostly his home state.
  • Andrew Jackson , Tennessee, a war hero after the Battle of New Orleans  in the war of 1812
  • Henry Clay , Kentucky
  • Adams 84 votes
  • I hate you. You cheated.
  • Andrew Jackson and John Adams were the one that got most of the vote. But Jackson got the plurality of the vote, so it was thrown to the House of Reps. Plurality is the largest number of something, but less than a majority.
  • It is very clear I won.
  • Jackson 99 votes
  • That's brilliant.
  • This isn't looking good. The House will probably voted for Jackson due to his military experience.
  • John Quincy Adams and Henry Clay.
  • Well, since I am the speaker of the house I can convince them to vote for you.
  • I'll do it only if you give me Secretary of State.
  • Please vote for John Quincy Adams. His father was president.
  • John Quincy Adams ended up being president and Henry Clay got his job as Secretary of State.  Though Jackson wasn't happy  this and called it the corrupt bargain.
  • This isn't fair, I should be president. This is a corrrupt bargain and I will run again.
