  • Hester Prynne is a woman who is on trial for adultery, and she has a newborn by the name of Pear. Hester is constantly questioned and publicly humuliated, and refuses to name the father.
  • Climax
  • Hester’s supposedly dead husband Roger Chillingworth finds his way to the town where Hester and Pearl are located, and he is angry. He decides he's going to find out who Hester had slept with.He makes Hester to promise to never speak of hims title. Hester to secrecy.
  • Falling Action
  • Dimmesdale soon begins to get sick and requires the medical attention of Hester's husband, Chillingworth. Soon after tending to Dimmesdale, Chillingworth begins to suspect that Dimmesdale is Pearl"s father.
  • Resolution
  • Dimmesdale and Hester meet in the forest and discuss their future plans together. Dimmesdale explains he's tired of hiding. He finally then confesses to his sins on the scaffold, in front of the towns people.
  • The meaning of Hester's scarlet letter changes, and she is no longer an outsider. Soon Dimmesdale and Chillingworth both die.
  • Hester and Pearl sail off to England. Hester returns to Boston and remains to live in the little cottage. Hester continues to still wear the scarlet letter even though she doesn’t have to, and women in the town come to her for advice, She eventually dies in Boston, and is then buried near Dimmesdale.
