Atticus Finch is a single father living in Maycomb, Alabama. He lives with his two children Jem and Scout, and their cook, Calpurnia. The story is set during the Great Depression in the 1930's. Atticus is a successful and well respected man in his community, making his living as a lawyer.
Beginning Of Adventure
Atticus is assigned the task of defending Tom Robinson, an African American man who was accused of raping a girl named Mayella Ewell. Maycomb has a history of white men accusing African Americans of crimes they did not commit. Maycomb is also racially segregated.
Road Of Trials
Atticus worries about his children's safety, due to the racial tension in Maycomb at the time. The community is not going to take kindly to Atticus defending a black man, which could affect the safety of his kids.
Atticus takes the case, although it goes completely against society. Atticus chose to do what is right. He chose to defend Tom Robinson and attempt to prove him innocent, even though it will turn his community against him.
Bob Ewell is the man accusing Atticus of raping his daughter Mayella. Mr. Ewell is a very racist man, he is also an alcoholic. Making him more dangerous and prone to possibly attacking Atticus or worse, Scout and Jem.
Calpurnia helps take care of the kids throughout the case, she loves Jem and Scout very much so she does her best to keep the kids safe from people who are against Atticus.
