Bud was with an abusive Foster family that didn't take good care of him and his foster parents locked him in a shed to sleep. “She held her hand up in my face and said, enough. Mr. Amos gave him the blanket and pillow off the bed he was in and put him in the shed. " The author says this on page 124.
Bud saw a Christmas tree next to a library and that is where he slept when he was on the "lam" "Most folks don't have sense enough to carry a blanket around with them, but you never know when you might be sleeping under a Christmas tree at the library so I always keep mine handy" It states this quote on page 37
Bud's mom died when he was 6 years old and his dad wasn't with him. “My momma got sick. She died real fast feel no pain no suffering.” Stated on page 18.
A guy said his name was Lefty Lewis and he found Bud walking by himself and took care of him for 2 days. "When he opened the passenger's side door can see there was a big box sitting on the front seat". On page 106 it said this.
Miss Thomas knew Bud's Mom and she gave a picture of her to him that could remind him of her. "I looked at the picture of Momma Miss Thomas gave to me." Stated on page 235.
