  • Describe the “daily life” for a cowboy? They spent their day roaming through rugged but gorgeous landscapes. The realities of cowboy life were far different from the myths. Cowboys faced many dangers, including blizzards, floods, and stampedes.
  • Describe what life was/is like in the oil fields? The rush of companies drilling oil at Spindletop soon led to the depletion of the field. By 1904 Spindletop was producing only 10,000 barrels of oil a day. Most of the companies that had formed went out of business when their wells dried up.
  • Why did labor unions grow in Texas, and what led to their decline? Wages and hours for industrial workers varied from job to job. Some workers joined labor unions organizations that supported the interests of workers. Unions pushed for improvements in the hours, wades, and working conditions of laborers.
