The Chaldeans controlled Judah in 605 B.C. In 597 B.C. the Jews decided to join Egyptians to rebel against the Chaldeans. This made King Nebuchadnezzar to punish the Jews by making 10,000 Jews leave the city . He chose a new king for the Jews and in 586 B.C. the king knew it was dangerous, but he still revolted against the Chaldeans and failed. Thus making the King of Chaldeans destroy the Jerusalem and took as many Jews as he can which became the Babylonian Exile.

A group called the Persians took over Babylon and defeated the Chaldeans in the 500s B.C. The new Persian king namde Cyrus ruled and approved for the Jews to return to their home. Although the Persians didn't allow the Jews to have their own king, they still helped rebuild the temple and Jerusalem. Without a king, the Jews depended on temple priests (responsible for sacrifices in the Temple) and scribes ( teaching the law of Moses).
