  • popular sovereignty: In 1854, Douglas proposed to divide the territories into Nebraska and Kansas.
  • Kansas-Nebraska Act: A bill was introduced to divide the territories. If passed, it would repeal the Missouri Compromise and establish popular sovereignty for both territories. 
  • This bill will divide the territories of Kansas and Nebraska and popular sovereignty will be established. 
  • Let's cross the border and ruin the elections in Kansas
  • Kansas held an election for their territory in 1855. People crossed the border into Kansas and voted illegally. Violence soon erupted.
  • The Sack of Lawerence: Lawerence was a town settled by anti-slavery settlers. They were accused of being traitor and authories were called. Groups of proslavery men attacked the settlers and burned down their homes.
  • The Pottawatomie Massacre:  Once John Brown had heard what had happened in Lawerence he took immediate action, desiring revenge. 
  • I must have revenge for the fallen citizens of Lawerence!!!!!
  • Bleeding Kansas: A violent massacre had commenced in Kansas. 200 people had died and this was known as the most violent battle of the civil war.
