Frederick Douglass was a 17 year old slave who worked on a plantation in the 1800s. One day, his mother suddenly died.
Frederick Douglass started to get more work as he got older. Sometimes he had to work long hours day and night. Most times he would see the crack of dawn.
Since Frederick Douglass knew how to read and write, the slave owners thought that he needed to be broken. This means that an overseer would come and shatter all his hopes and dreams. Master Thomas (the owner of the plantation) was a mean monster. He decided to send him to a slave breaker for a year. This slave breaker's name was Covey.
Frederick did not like how Covey treated him. He whipped him, and kicked him, and punched him. Finally, without looking back, Frederick came to the decision to run away.
In the forest, Frederick bumped into his buddy Sandy. Sandy knew the Ancient African secrets of healing and offered to help him. Sandy gave him a magical root. Sandy's magical root cried out to him. This assured Frederick his safety as he walked back to the plantation.
Hey Buddy, need some help?
Frederick went back to the farm. There, Covey eventually starts whipping him. Frederick looses his patience and fights back. POW! BOOM! POW! PUNCH! KICK! Before we knew it Frederick and Covey were fighting. Covey collapsed, calling his cousin.
