  • Deforestation is carried out to clear land, and trees in the forest are cut down.

  • Soil erosion occurs as there are insufficient tree roots to hold the soil firmly together. Soil is therefore washed away as surface runoff by the rain.

  • Soil enters the water, and excessive nutrients such as phosphorus are spread into the water, home to algae and other organisms.
  • This process is called "Eutrophication"
  • In the presence of more nutrients, algae grow more rapidly, gradually blocking out sunlight and causing other plants and animals to die due to lack of nutrition and light.

  • When the algae dies, oxygen is used up for its decomposition, further depriving other plants and animals of it and resulting in more plants and animals dying.
