Nick has lunch with the Buchanans (Daisy is his cousin), and meets Jordan Baker. "Across the courtesy bay the white palaces of fashionable East Egg glittered along the water, and the history of the summer really begins on the evening I drove over there to have dinner with the Tom Buchanans."
Daisy invites Nick and Gatsby for lunch at her house.
They go to a Manhattan apartment, to a small party that ends with Tom punching Myrtle in the face for talking about Daisy. "'Daisy! Daisy! Daisy!' shouted Mrs. Wilson. 'I’ll say it whenever I want to! Daisy! Dai ——' Making a short deft movement, Tom Buchanan broke her nose with his open hand."
Daisy kills Myrtle
Nick meets Meyer Wolfshiem, and where Gatsby meets Tom. "'I’ve been having lunch with Mr. Gatsby.' I turned toward Mr. Gatsby, but he was no longer there."
Wilson kills Gatsby
She and Gatsby plan to reveal their love to Tom, but instead in the unbearably hot day, the group decides to go to Manhattan to the Plaza Hotel. "He was calling up at Daisy’s request — would I come to lunch at her house tomorrow?"
On the way back from the hotel, Daisy, driving Gatsby’s car, runs over and kills Myrtle Wilson. That night, Tom convinces George Wilson that it was actually Gatsby who killed Myrtle. "The 'death car' as the newspapers called it, didn't stop; it came out of the gathering darkness, wavered tragically for a moment, and then disappeared around the next bend"
Later that day, Wilson shoots and kills Gatsby and then himself. "I tried to think about Gatsby then for a moment, but he was already too far away, and I could only remember, without resentment, that Daisy hadn't sent a message or a flower"
