I wish that I didn't have to EAT disgusting meat! Why can't I be just like this flower, who doesn't have to eat to survive?
My young dear, you have so much to learn about us flowers. To begin, we do eat. Through a process called photosynthesis! It is quite simple to understand...
What is photosynthesis? I mean, it seems nearly impossible for flowers and plants to be able to eat. You have no mouths. How do you do it?
Well, we may not have mouths, but that doesn't mean we don't eat! We make our own food, by using sunlight to make sugar. Now, don't try this yourself, because everyone knows that only plants can make this sugar. How? Well, we have a pigment inside us that is called chlorophyll, and we use this to make the sugar.
That is so cool! And also quite surprising! I mean, who knew that plants had little sugar making factories right inside them? Anyways, why do you plants have chlorophyll inside you?
Firstly, they are not factories, it is just our bodies. Okay, we have chlorophyll inside our bodies because it is the pigment that gives us our green color. Moving on, part of the photosynthesis process is supplying the sugar to the rest of our bodies. We transport the sugar to our leaves, stems, and petals.
