I feel that in today’s arenas of media and education, this is a skill that is arguably more important now than it has ever been.
At the beginning of the course, I wrote that a big goal of mine was to hone my ability to discern truth and credible information.
And, I would argue that though I still have much room for improvement, I have!
I attribute this in large part to the module assignments which have forced me to critically peruse academic prose for meaning.
An example of something that I've learned about in this class that has helped me in this pursuit has been Action Research! The cycle of inquiry illustrates a great method for collecting, anaylzing, and interpreting data for problem solving.
This is work that heavily relies on one's ability to be able to discern the truth when it comes to race, class, politics, and the intersections of these things.
This is something that is incredibly important to work that I do as a grad assistant in the Upperman African American Cultural Center (and hope to do in the future!)
So, at this point, I imagine everyone watching is wondering what I plan on doing in the future to continue this learning.
... And the answer is a lot more schooling and reading! It'll be sometimes tedious and hard, but I'm assured that it will all be worthwhile!
