  •     Charlie gets the surgery done to make him three times more intelligent, the surgery was first performed on a mouse named Algernon. The surgery was a success on Algernon and appeared to be successful on Charlie as well.
  • Falling Action
  • Go away! I don't like you!
  • *Knock Knock*
  • Charlie becomes impatient because at first getting smarter was slow to start to see an increase in intelligence, but soon after Charlie could learn languages in just a day. Charlie was able to learn a lot of things very quickly. Charlie got very smart very quickly and he was fired from his job at a factory because people were scared of him.
  • Denoument
  • Charlie and Algernon have been very similar after the surgery, but Algernon started to get agitated and violent. He eventually bit Charlie and then he started to deteriorate at an extremely fast rate. And also became very uncooperative. Algernon died shortly after his deterioration.
  • Charlie decides that he’ll use his intelligence to take Dr. Strauss and Dr. Nemur’s studies to his level. Charlie finds out that he’ll start to become like Algernon. Charlie starts to regress and doesn’t talk to anyone for a while. He then goes back to the factory, explains what had happened to him and gets his job back.
  • Charlie decided that he wanted to get away from all the people pitying him. He tells them that he was grateful that he got a chance to be smart and that he was going to move away. He asks that someone will put flowers on Algernon’s grave. The story is then left open.
  • Here lies Algernon
