  • It was built in early 1864.
  • John McElroy was a Prisoner at the Andersonville Prison.
  • Elroy describes the rations, and he tells us how the were decreasing. He also tells us how he saw prisoners being shot for no reason other then the guards wanting them dead.
  • The Andersonville Prison, was a Confederate Prison.
  • It was the worst prison during the whole Civil War.
  • Its first prisoners arrived in late February during 1864.
  • Henry Wirz was the only person that was punished after the Civil War was over with because of how he ran it.
  • It had the most casualties out of any other prison.
  • There were 2 groups of prisoners, the raiders and regulators.
  • The raiders were prisoners that stole and murdered fellow inmates. The regulators were a prisoner police force that captured the raiders.
  • It impacted the Southerners in a positive way because they had to fight less men in battle.
  • It helped our nation because more people would have died if they were fighting in the war, then the amount of people that died in the prison.
  • It held 45,000 Union soldiers during the 14 months it was in operation.
