  • Hi, my name is Annabel Lee
  • Paraphrase - A long time ago, a girl was named Annabel Lee and was in love with the narrator. One night, she died and the narrator blames it on God. He feels like she is still with him and sleeps by her grave every night.
  • And my name is Annabel's Lover
  • Connotation - Love, maiden, kingdom, angels, demons, wind, chilling, and killing
  • Sadly, we can not be together forever
  • Attitude/Tone - This poem gives the reader a happy feeling at the beginning because there are two lovers but then it gets sad when Annabel dies. In the end, it gets creepy because he sleeps beside her grave.
  • Shifts - The main shift in the poem occurs in the 6th paragraph. This is when it changes from sad to creepy when the reader realizes that he is sleeping beside her grave.
  • How can we be together again...?
  • ...Oh wait! I know!
  • Theme - The theme of this poem is that true love continues after death. The narrator loves Annabel Lee so much that he sleeps beside her dead body. While this may be creepy, it supports the theme that true love continues after death.
