- St. Bennidict a hermit, wrote the Bennidict rules, which brought balance to manostatic lifestyle.
- The rules said there would be 4 hours of communal prayer and chanting. Along with 6 hours of labor.
- The rules also said that they would have 4 hours for private prayer and scripture reading. The final 10 hours in the day were for eating and sleeping.
