  • The person behind the Kansas-Nebraska Act was a former white house representative, Stephen A. Douglas. He wanted to see Nebraska made into a territory, and to get the support from the southern states, he proposed that Kansas should allow slavery.
  • In response of the Kansas-Nebraska Act, pro-slavery and antislavery forces descended on Kansas, which caused an outburst of violence and bloodshed.
